Carroll Harlan “Nort” Norcross, 78, died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by his family and friends. A funeral service for Carroll will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 30, 2013, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 Jefferson, Mason City, with Reverend Jim Magelssen officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 18 West, Mason City, with military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Carroll Harlan Norcross was born on October 30, 1935, in Woolstock, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Doris (Myhre) Norcross. Nort attended rural country school in Lyle, MN, and Plymouth, graduating from Mason City High School in 1954. He was inducted into the United States Air Force serving his country in North Africa, and the Philippines, until his honorable discharge. Carroll also served with the 1133rd National Guard in Mason City. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Reynolds on July 28, 1956, in Mason City, and to this marriage three children were born, Mark, Lori, and Jeff. Carroll worked for Super Value Grocery Store and Deckers Meat Packing Company in Mason City before beginning his career in civil service with the United States Postal Service in Mason City, and held different offices for the postal service until he retired in 1992. After his retirement he worked as a security guard for Lewis Systems, and drove cars for Schukei Chevrolet, and Pritchard Auto.
Nort enjoyed, golfing, fishing, hunting turkey and deer, bowling, camping, playing cards, coaching baseball for the Knights of Columbus baseball team, Men’s Club at the Mason City Country Club, wintering in McAllen and Mission Texas, and was inducted into the River City, and Iowa Softball Hall of Fame. Carroll was a devoted husband, father, and was the world’s greatest grandfather.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn Norcross of Mason City; his children, Mark Norcross of Mason City, Lori (Bill) Shannon of Council Bluffs and Jeff (Laura) Norcross of Mason City; his grandchildren, Tara Shannon and Brian (Amanda) Shannon of Council Bluffs, Haley and Samantha Norcross of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Braylon, and Annastyn Shannon; two sisters, Beverly Tibbits of Robbins, Iowa, and Connie Randall of Meza, Arizona; a brother-in-law, Richard Almquist of Ft. Myers, Florida; as well as many extended family members and friends. arroll was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darold Norcross; sister, Dorothy Lugg, and Deloris Almquist; a sister-in-law, Delores Norcross; and a brother-in-law, Morse Tibbits.
