Lewellyn Hippen was called home on December 12, 2013. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 15 at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. There will be a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. December 16 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames.

Lew was born on November 19, 1928 to Albert and Cora (Neuberger) Hippen in Klemme, Iowa. After farming for several years, Lew began working at the Hardy grain elevator. The family moved to Thor where Lew later became the owner/manager of Thor Grain Company. He was an active member in the Thor Ullensvang Lutheran Church.

Lew felt that his family was the center of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather - always ready with a word of encouragement or wise counsel. Lew will always be remembered in the hearts of his family: his wife of 63 years, Margaret; his sons, Lonnie (Jerilyn) Hippen and Scott Hippen; his daughters, Julie (Randall) Junkman, Rhonda (Michael) Coborn and Shelley Hippen; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Albert (Marilyn) Hippen; his sisters, Norma (Marvin) Anderson and Nancy (Bob) Ferrell; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the donor's choice of charity in loving memory of Lewellyn Hippen. Adams Funeral Home in Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
