Evelyn M. Carlton, 91, of Independence, formerly of Waterloo, died Dec. 16, 2005, at the West Village Care Center, Independence, following a short illness. She was born May 20, 1914, in Belmond, daughter of John K. and Myrtle A. Jones Whipple. She married Lawrence W. Carlton on April 20, 1940, in Waterloo. He died in 1992. Mrs. Carlton worked as an Avon representative in Waterloo for 20 years. Survivors include a daughter Virginia (Claude) Smith of Independence; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Taylor; a brother, Harold Whipple; and two sisters, Dorothy Whipple and Marjorie Lawrence. Private funeral services will be held at Reiff Funeral Home and Crematory, Independence, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo.
