Belmond - LuVerne Edward Wessels, 53, of Belmond, died Saturday (June 18, 1988) at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Larry Garrett officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Mr. Wessels was born Feb. 26, 1935, at Belmond to Luke and Leona (Prilipp) Wessels. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1953. On May 12, 1969 he was married to Elaine Hoeft at Lewis Falls, S.D. He operated Wessels Truck Line in Belmond. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Fulton Funeral Home in Belmond.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine, of Belmond; two daughters Mrs. Chad (Lila) Pfleger, Knoxville, Tenn., and Lynne Wessels, Belmond; three sons, Dwight, Goodell, and Duane and Jason both of Belmond; his mother Mrs. Leona Wessels Goulty, Kenyon, Minn.; two brothers, Bernard, Thorn Bay, Alaska, and Robert of Belmond; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
