Alvin W. Schliske, 90, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday October 20, 2013 at the Marian Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday October 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Corpus Christi Cemetery with full military rites presented by the V.F.W. Post 1856. A visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife Alice of 61 years; children, Jim (DeeDee) Schliske of Fort Dodge; Jerry (Lori) Schliske of Fort Dodge; Jane (Mike) Scott of Badger; Bob (Teresa) Schliske of Fort Dodge; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; several step-grandchildren; and a sister Elverna Askeland of Fort Dodge. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Martha (Dencklau) Schliske.

Alvin Walter Schliske was born July 10, 1923 in Fort Dodge. He attended the Colfax Township schools. Following his education, Alvin began farming with his parents. In 1941, Alvin enlisted into the United States Army serving overseas in the Philippines during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm. On November 8, 1952 he was united in marriage to Alice Schall, at Holy Rosary Church. The couple farmed until 1993, when Alvin retired, they moved to Fort Dodge. Alvin was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1856, and a board member of the Vincent New Coop., serving for two terms. Memorials may be left to Iowa Hospice.
