Following a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and a serious leg injury from a car accident in 1970, Jake passed away in his home on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. He was born January 16, 1932, in Hancock County. He graduated from Meservey School and married Mavis Faaborg on February 24, 1952. He served in the Marines for two years, including 6 months in Japan. He worked for Woodford Wheeler Lumber Company for 36 years.
Jake was a member of the Meservey Fire Department and Fire Chief. He was also a member of the Meservey City Council. He played for the Clear Lake Butter Topp Fast Pitch Softball Team, the Belmond Jr. Legion and Belmond Tomahawk Baseball Teams. He also played for and managed the Meservey Men’s softball teams. He was an avid sports fan of all sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, having his own personal Cardinal sidewalk brick outside of Busch Stadium! He was extremely proud of his grandchildren.
He is survived by wife Mavis, daughter Sherri, son Doug (Kelli), grandchildren Taylor and Tanner (all of Minnesota), Brother-in-Law Lloyd Faaborg (Bev) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
There will be no public service or visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to National Parkinson Foundation MN, 5905 Golden Valley Road, Suite 201, Golden Valley, MN 55422. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dugger Funeral Home in Belmond.
