May 7, 1871 --- June 22, 1914

Goldfield Chronicle: The community was saddened Monday afternoon by news of the death of Mr. Sather, who had been making a brave fight against great odds. Though it was known he had small chances for recovery, the entire community was hoping that a change for the better might come, and the sad result brought a wave of sincere sympathy for the bereaved family.

Leon Charles Sather was born in Norway May 7, 1871, and died at his home in Goldfield, Iowa, June 22, 1914, aged 43 years, 1 month and 15 days. He came to the United States when but nine years of age, locating first in Minnesota. He was married to Miss Christine Mary Peterson at Luverne, Minnesota, December 3, 1896. This happy couple moved to Iowa in 1899, having lived in Dows, Cleves and their present location, where they have resided for the past 11 years. To this union were born four children, namely, Miss Florence, Clifton, Lyle and little Geneva. Besides the children Mr. Sather leaves to mourn his loss Mrs. Sather, his wife, also one sister, Mrs. Carrie Iverson, of St. Paul, also other relatives. Deceased united with the Christian church in Goldfield seven years ago and was faithful and loyal until death, having been a member of the official board for some years. He was a member of the O. R. T. order and was held in highest esteem. Mr. Sather has been station agent here for the past eleven years and has made friends of everyone. Both in his private and business life Mr. Sather was admired for his pleasant and congenial manners. Ever diligent in his business calling, he was a valued servant of his employers and held their highest esteem and confidence. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Christian church, Rev. W. C. Cole, a former pastor, conducting the service. He spoke feelingly of his pleasant associations with the deceased and of his goodness. A male quartette sang. The church was literally covered with beautiful floral offerings of friends, and a piece from the O. K. T. was especially beautiful. Burial took place at Glenwood cemetery. The bereaved wife and children and other relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends in the community in their sadness.

Relatives and friends from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. C. E. Iverson of St. Paul, Minnesota, C. A. Peterson, of Worthington, Minn., C. W. Peterson, of Livermore, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Dahl, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Mrs. Roberts and daughter, of Luverne, Minnesota, and Mrs. Olson and family of Dows.

Mrs. L. C. Sather and children, Will and Marion Peterson plan to leave soon for a visit at the parental Peterson home at Amery, Wisconsin. They expect to be gone three weeks, and will visit relatives at Luverne, Minnesota, and Spirit Lake before returning. Upon their return Will Peterson and Mrs. Sather will resume charge of the Rock Island station here. Mr. Peterson is a capable station agent and with Mrs. Sather's assistance the company's business here will be capably handled. It is at the request of the business men and others that this arrangement has been effected and Goldfield rejoices that the estimable Sather family is to remain here.
