October 5, 1914 --- January 13, 2000

Jane Boggs, 85, of Virginia [MN] died on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth. Her son, Tim Reed, sister, Joan Wirtanen, and daughter, Nancy Reed Nichols-Goldstein, were with her. She was born in Virginia on Oct. 5, 1914, to Irene and Leonard Pfeifer. She was the owner and operator of the Lakeview Motel at Crane Lake for 45 years. Her guests returned regularly from all over the United State and many became treasured friends. She was a gifted remedial reading tutor. She received merit awards from the NEA and the Eagle Grove (Iowa) Community Schools for her teaching contributions. Her greatest joy came from helping children to learn to read. She is survived by a son, Thomas "Tim” Reed, of Fort Smith, Ark.; a daughter, Nancy Reed Nichols-Goldstein, of New York City; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Wirtanen. Nancy and Tim will continue to welcome guests, friends and family at Crane Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L Boggs; and a son, Richard C. Reed.
