MRS. L. E. ASHLAND LEARNS OF DEATH OF DR. W. D. [E. D.] TOMPKINS

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. L. E. Ashland, 405 N. 4th street, received word Friday of the death of a relative, Dr. W. D. [E. D.] Tompkins, 72, at Clarion Friday morning. Dr. Tompkins was a cousin of Mrs. Ashland’s mother, the late Mrs. C. R. Woodford. Funeral services are to be held at the Presbyterian church in Clarion Monday afternoon at 2. Burial is expected to be in Clear Lake cemetery. Dr. Tompkins was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Winslow C. Tompkins, early day residents of Clear lake. The father served as Cerro Gordo county treasurer and was connected with the Woodford-Wheeler lumber company for some time. Dr. Tompkins is survived by a son, Dr. W. T. Tompkins, Philadelphia, Pa., and 2 grandchildren. His wife died about 18 years ago and is buried in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Find Clarion Doctor Dead in Hotel Room

Clarion — Dr. E. D. Tompkins, 72, former mayor of Clarion and a candidate for that office in the election next Monday, was found dead in his room at Hotel Moore Friday morning. A heart attack was attributed to the cause. Dr. Tompkins came to Clarion in 1899 as a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He served overseas in the first World war, returning to Clarion where he practiced with Dr. H. P. Walker. This partnership was dissolved last year. Surviving is a son, Dr. Wynn Tompkins of Philadelphia, and 2 grandchildren. Dr. Tompkins served 2 terms as mayor some years ago and has also served on the school board.
