Eugene Wayne Hinrichsen was born January 15, 1936 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. On May 17, 1936 he received Christian baptism administered by Pastor H. S. Fauske. After receiving the usual instruction in the Christian faith he was confirmed at Samuel Lutheran church April 9, 1950 by Pastor H. C. Bakken. He received his elementary education in the public school of Eagle Grove. He was fatally injured while playing football Friday night, October 9, 1853 and died at the Lutheran hospital, Fort Dodge, Iowa, the same night at 11:00 p.m.
Eugene was a friendly youth and won many friends. Those friends will always remember him as one of their best friends too. He was endowed with a natural gift for leadership. He possessed many qualities which rated him as a youth with prospects for a good future. He was outstanding in athletics having both ability, intelligence and being a clean sportsman; for which he had the respect and admiration of his team mates as well as his opponents and the many friends who watched him perform in athletic contests.
Eugene was a member of the Eagle Grove high school senior class, its president, member of the honor "E" club for three years, member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams for three years and the track team for one year. He was a member of the Samuel Lutheran church and Samuel Senior Luther League and the Junior Bible class.
He is survived by his parents, two brothers and three sisters: Willert, Joan, Beverly, Ruth, and Dale; three grandparents and many relatives.
Funeral services were held from Samuel Evangelical Lutheran church Monday, October 12, 1953 at 1:00 p.m. and from the Eagle Grove high school auditorium at 2:00 p.m. Pastor B. F. Molstre officiated. At the church Samuel male chorus and Gloria Oliver sang. At the high school the school choir and Samuel male chorus and Edward Novak, Jr. sang. Casket bearers were: James Crabbe, Tom Duer, Harlan Lewis, Robert Smith, John Luthro, Curt Sunner, Roland Pohlman and Gearhard Bremer. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
