Marvin Emory Thompson, 76, son of Frank Emory & Anna Marie (Pedersen) Thompson, was born June 12, 1937 in Woolstock, Iowa. He passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Guthrie County Hospital, Guthrie Center, Iowa. Marvin attended and graduated from Belmond High School in Belmond, Iowa. On February 8, 1960, Marvin married Margie Pals in Meservey, Iowa. To this union three sons and a daughter were born. Marvin served in the United States Army from July of 1960 until July of 1962. They made their home in various communities before moving to Guthrie Center in 1990. Marvin worked at Sunny Fresh Foods in Panora from 1987 until he retired in 2002. Marvin enjoyed working on lawn mowers and was known as the "Lawn Mower Man." He also enjoyed woodworking, playing cribbage, watching western movies, and attending the local Gospel Singing.

Marvin is survived by his wife Margie of Guthrie Center; sons, Martin Thompson of Guthrie Center; Marlin Thompson of Churdan; Mark Thompson of Jefferson; and daughter, Marcie Sullivan of Jefferson. Twelve grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and brother, Gerald Thompson of Belmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson James Emory Thompson, 4 brothers, and 1 sister. Funeral services were August 13, 2013 at the First Christian Church, Guthrie Center, with burial in Union Cemetery.
