BELLEVUE, Iowa - Mary Meier, 81, of Bellevue, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, 2013, at her home in Bellevue surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10 a.m. today at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bellevue.

Merlin M. Meier was born on April 30, 1932, in Clarion, Iowa, daughter of Peter and Gladys (Smith) Wanken. She married Floyd T. Meier on Sept. 22, 1952, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove, Iowa; he preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 2010. She worked at ESCA in Dubuque for many years, retiring in 1986. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was caring, giving and spiritual. Mary was always on the go and had many friends. She enjoyed crocheting, walking, biking and bowling. Mary's grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to her.

Those left to honor her memory are her four children, David (Belita) and Donald "Moonie" (Mary Jo), both of Bellevue, Tim (Kristine), of Shellsburg, Iowa, and Tina (Duane) Gonner, of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Francis (Judy) Wanken and Daniel (Gaye) Wanken; and a sister, Marge Portz. She also was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandchild, Layna Marie Meier; and four sisters, Kay, Rose, Betty and Sherie.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and the staff at The Wendt Center in Dubuque.
