EAGLE GROVE - Gerald F. Bonde, 84, of Eagle Grove, died Tuesday (May 9, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Willim Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. rosary.

Gerald F. Bonde was born August 24, 1915 near Humboldt, the son of Harold and Dora (Nielsen) Bonde. He attended South Valley Country School for eight years and then graduated from Rutland High School. Gerald drove a tank wagon in Eagle Grove prior to World War II. During the war he served in the U.S. Coast Guard in Norfolk, Virg. and Groton, Conn. On Jan. 10, 1945, he married Marie Edith Faucher in Taftville, Conn. After completing his military service in 1945, he returned to Eagle Grove and worked for the Iowa Public Service Company until he retired in 1977. Gerald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served on the Church Parish Council; he was a Water Board Trustee; and was a past president of the Eagle Grove Country Club. He died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 84.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Edith; his son, Larry, of Iowa City; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Burton Bonde, of Fort Dodge; and Allen Bonde, of Algona; and one sister, Annice Patton of Gowrie. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gaylord; and a sister, Beryl Davis.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 13, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
