EAGLE GROVE - Leona E. Gross, 87, died Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999) at her home in Eagle Grove. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove.

Leona Eleanor Smith was born on November 13, 1911, on a farm near Thor, Iowa, to Walter C. and Anna C. Emerson Smith. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1930. She was united in marriage with William K. Gross on October 3, 1934, in Pocahontas, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm northeast of Eagle Grove. Her husband preceded her in death on June 29, 1977. She worked at various secretarial and bookkeeping jobs in Eagle Grove, including the Wilson & Company Poultry Plant. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Martha Circle in Eagle Grove.
Leona E. Gross died Saturday, August 21, 1999, at her home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 87. She is survived by 3 sons, David, Danny and wife, Nita, and Stephen, all of Eagle Grove; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Aeline Swatloske, Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; one daughter, Sandra; one grandson, Patrick; one great-grandson, Tony; and 2 sisters, Fern and Adeline.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 24, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Reverends Paul and Susan Stone officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
