Gretchen Rininger, age 88, of Schaller, Iowa died Friday, September 13, 2013 at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Gretchen H. Rininger was born May 23, 1925 in Renwick, Iowa the daughter of William and Hilda (Boge) Helmke. She was baptized and confirmed at the Renwick Lutheran Church. Growing up, she attended school in Renwick where she graduated from Renwick High School in 1942. Following graduation, she attended Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City, Iowa. Gretchen worked for Dr. Marsten and later Dr. Velma Boston as a nurse until she was united in marriage to Oren Rininger on August 20, 1950 at the Renwick Lutheran Church. Together, they were blessed with three children: Curtis, Marcia, and Lisa.

Gretchen enjoyed baking and cooking for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and canning. Gretchen loved spending time in Okoboji, playing golf and taking a daily walk on the board walk. Family was very important to Gretchen and she treasured the time she was able to spend with them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Oren Rininger of Schaller, Iowa; children: Curtis (Terri) Rininger of Schaller, Iowa; Marcia (Jim Haugen) Rininger of Omaha, Nebraska; Lisa (Kelly) Meusburger of Schaller, Iowa; grandchildren: Cody, Whitney, and Tanner Rininger; Chris and Kate Risling; Jason (Sarah) Meusburger; Tyler Meusburger and special friend, Shelley Butler; great grandchildren: Avery, Cole and Adelyn Rininger; Maya Risling; Gabriel and Ellie Meusburger; brother, Jerry (Mardelle) Helmke; sister, Janice Basler; extended family and friends. Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Norman Helmke; sisters: Kathryn Duffy and LaVonne Peer; and brothers-in-law: Corwin Peer, Jim Duffy and Gary Basler.
