Funeral services for Grace Buyert, age 91, of Watertown, SD, will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011, in Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Watertown. Rev. Marlyn Kuper will officiate. Music will be provided by Marsha Kurtenback as organist and Pastor Terry Drew as soloist. Grace passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at a care center in Clear Lake, SD. She was the widow of Bert Buyert. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Pallbearers will be: Gerrit VanHolland, Bill Schoep, Merle Buyert, Myron Buyert, Vernon “Bud” Hofkamp, and Ryan Hofkamp. Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and in the church on Thursday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church by 12:30 p.m. for a prayer service.

Grace was born on March 28, 1919, in Hamlin County, SD, to Neal and Emma (Bleeker) Grifhorst. She attended school at District #49 near Clear Lake, SD. In the fifth grade, she moved to Orange City, IA. She later moved back to Clear Lake and worked as a housekeeper. On October 15, 1941, Grace married Bert Buyert at Bemis, SD. The couple farmed near Bemis. From 1970 to 2000 she did housekeeping, wall papering, and painting for several people in the area. The couple moved to Watertown in 1975. Bert passed away in May of 2007. Grace moved to Deuel County Good Samaritan Society in November of 2010.

Grace was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the XYZ group. She was a past member of Bemis Holland Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday and Bible school. She was also active in Ladies Aide. She enjoyed keeping up the house and yard; baking, especially bread; and serving large lunches. She also enjoyed playing Rook, word search puzzles, and visits from her “grand-dog”, Bailey.

She is survived by two sons: Harley Buyert of Redmond, WA, and Wesley (Diane) Buyert of Bemis, SD; one daughter, Maxine (DuWayne) Krause, of Watertown, SD; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Bernice Schoep of Hull, IA, and Gert (Simon) Korver of Lynden, WA. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; her parents; two sisters, Marie Buyert and Helen Hofkamp; and two step-grandchildren.
