George Henry Martin was born February 27, 1882, one of eleven children of Anna Mary Kelling Odenheimer Martin and Charles Henry Martin. He attended rural school and Renwick High School, where he graduated in 1898. His education continued at Drake University and the University of Iowa, where he received his medical degree in 1907. In 1906 he was united in marriage to Blanch French, in Canon City, Colorado. Dr. Martin began his medical practice in the state of Washington, near Tacoma. Later he practiced in Ceylon, Minn., after which he returned to the old homestead farm in Boone Township for several years.

In 1916 he spent an academic year in the University of Minnesota medical school and several months in Cook County and St. Luke's hospitals. in Chicago. He established his practice in Eagle Grove in 1917, and remained there until his retirement in January 1946. He was an active member of the Methodist Church of Eagle Grove. In recent years he lived in California, where he has a home near Palo Alto and in Madison, Wisconsin. During recent years his health has been uncertain and his activities limited. He passed away early January 17, 1950 at the home of Mrs. Walter Martin, near Renwick, Iowa, within sight of his boyhood home as well as the schools he attended.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all brothers and sisters except one brother, Alfred, who now resides on the old homestead near Renwick. He is also survived by his wife, three children, Mildred of San Francisco, Calif., George A., of Madison, Wisconsin, and Dr. Frank of St. Louis, Missouri, and five grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist Church at Eagle Grove, with Rev. H. G. Dawes officiating. Interment was held on the family lot in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield, Iowa.
