Mrs. Emma Lockwood
Emma Irene Lockwood was born near Renwick, Iowa on October 1, 1869. She was one of eleven children born to Charles and Ann Winter, all of whom have preceded her in death except two brothers. She began her Christian life at the early age of 14, and was one of the charter members of the Hardy Methodist church. On February 21, 1892 she was united in marriage to George H. Lockwood and to this union were born five children; Charles of Des Moines; Floyd of Cedar Falls, Walter of Burt, Pearl Lockwood and Mrs. C. L. (Evelyn) Mack of Hardy. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1938 and leaves to mourn her loss her five children, eight grandchildren, and two brothers, Henry Winter of Mossbank, Sask., Canada, and Grant Winter of Kansas City, Missouri.

During her many years of suffering she was cared for by her daughter, Pearl, who was always at her side. During her last illness she received loving care from Pearl and from her friend and companion Mrs. Nina Rummells. She was always a loyal to her Christian faith and to her church. Because of her ill health at times she had made preparation for her departure.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 16, 1948, at the C. L. Mack home at 1:45 and at the Hardy Methodist church at 2 o'clock. The local pastor, Rev. W. Neal, was in charge. The text was taken from the fourteenth chapter of St. John and pastor also read several other favorite passages of scripture. Music was furnished by Mrs. Paul W. Neal and Mrs. Marshall Clancy with Mrs. Clyde Olden at the piano. The hymns sung were "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder", Some Blessed Day", and "It Is Well With My Soul." The floral offerings were beautiful and several gifts to missions were given in memory of the departed one.

The pallbearers were five grandsons and a grandson-in-law, Earl Lockwood, Harold Lockwood, Merlin Lockwood, Homer Lockwood, Dale Lockwood and Henry Fields. Internment was made in the Vernon cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Beenen Funeral Service.
