Zella Mae (Eichhorn) Egesdal was born on Wednesday, September 13, 1916 in Elmore; Faribault County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Cornelius and Lolo Belle (Rowe) Eichhorn. Zella graduated from Elmore High School, and completed teacher's training in Cedar Falls, IA, before teaching country school near Elmore. She was united in marriage to Carlin Egesdal on May 4, 1935. They were farmers until they purchased and operated the grocery store in Ledyard for 18 years. Upon retiring, Zella joined Carlin in delivering Winnebago Motor homes, and visited all but two of the States. She loved to travel and, wherever she went, she never met a stranger. Zella was a member of the E & R Church in Ledyard and was proud to be a life-long member of the American Legion Auxiliary. After Carlin's death in 1979, Zella spent several winters in Arizona, and then settled in Callender, IA. In 2004, she moved to St. Luke's Lutheran Home in Blue Earth, Minnesota where she enjoyed living until Mother's Day, 2010, when she left for her heavenly home. Zella's children, grandchildren and close friends were the joy of her life. She always remembered special occasions with a card and letter. Besides writing letters, Zella enjoyed playing the piano and crocheting afghans for children, grandchildren and friends. She will be remembered by the children of Ledyard for her traditional Halloween treat of popcorn balls.

Zella Mae (Eichhorn) Egesdal, age 93, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the Saint Luke's Lutheran Home in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her six children: Ann (Robert) Wallentine of Sun City West, Arizona. Larry (Rosina) Egesdal of Manteca, California. Jane Johnson of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Linda (Roger) Thompson of Lakota, Iowa. Kari (Darrel) Suhrbier of Lehigh, Iowa. Timothy Egesdal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her daughter-in-law: Lila Rauk of Leland, Iowa as well as her thirteen grandchildren and Twenty-one great-grandchildren. Her brother: Elden Eichhorn, plus many nieces, nephews and special family friends: Janice Winter and Lucille Eldredge. Preceding Zella in death are her parents, her husband: Carlin. Nine siblings. Her son: Carlin, Jr. (Butch) and three grandchildren: David Egesdal, Diana Johnson and Paul Thompson. May they rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn. Friends and Family may attend her visitation on Monday; May 10, 2010 at the Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard, Iowa from: 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and also on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral services. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday; May 11, 2010 at the Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard, Iowa with the Reverend Doug Vanderpol officiating. Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery in Elmore, Minnesota. The Winter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
