Nonagenarian Called by Death

Mrs. Mary Imus, 91, died at her home in this city, Sunday, July 14, age 91 years, 2 months and 4 days. She was born in Shropshire, England May 10, 1844.

Mary Hale was born at Shropshire, England May 10, 1844 and died at her home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, July 14, 1935 at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 4 days. Her parents were James and Mary Hale, she being the oldest daughter of a family of 12 children. At the age of six years she came with her parents to New York state where she lived during her childhood. In early womanhood she went with her parents to Wisconsin where she was married to Charles H. Imus July 3, 1863. Five years later they moved with their family by covered wagon to Minnesota where they lived until 1863. In the meantime the oldest daughter had married and settled in South Dakota so mother and father decided to follow her. There the father and husband was stricken with typhoid fever and she was left with four dependent children. She came to Marble Rock, Iowa in 1888 and has lived in various parts of the state, coming to Eagle Grove nine years ago where she has since lived with her daughter, Florence and son Frank.
Mrs. Imus was raised in a Christian home, her father being a local preacher in England for many years. She joined the church in early childhood and has remained a faithful member to the time of her death. She was a great companion of her father and loved to tell often of her help to him by her reading and writing for him especially during the Civil War. Six of her brothers saw service during the Civil War.

Mrs. Imus was a woman of sterling character. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and a loyal friend and neighbor. She has lived a long and useful life and has entered into her deserved reward.

She leaves to mourn her going, two daughters and three sons, Mrs. J. M. Lovrien of Eagle Grove, Ia, Tabor C. Imus of Ottosen, Ia, J. E. Imus of Charles City, Ia., Florence and Frank Imus of Eagle Grove. William Imus died in 1922. Besides the immediate family she leaves 17 grand children and 32 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Wilson Funeral Chapel, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. W. L. Breaw of the Methodist church. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at Humboldt.
