Donald D. Haefner, 85, of Sycamore, Ill., died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in DeKalb. He was born Jan. 29, 1927, in Klemme, Iowa, the son of R.H. and Helen (Maitland) Haefner. He married Jeanne Smith on April 3, 1948, in Sycamore. Donald was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Donald worked as a service technician for Nicor, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Sycamore VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of Sycamore; two daughters, Pat Duchardt of Peoria and Pam Bryant of Whitefish, Mont.; two grandchildren, Star Schultz and Ben Conlin; and one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn. He was preceded in death by his parents. His funeral service and burial will be private. A memorial has been established for Donald Haefner with the American Cancer Society in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
