MASON CITY - Magna N. Bowen, 91, of 72 Stony Way, died Wednesday [March 22, 2000] at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., with the Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery in Garner. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a Queen Rebekah Lodge service at 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Magna N. Bowen Memorial Fund.

Magna was born Nov. 14, 1908, in Jyland, Denmark, the daughter of Rasmus A. and Frederikke (Thillemann) Rasmussen. Magna lived in Denmark until age 14, when her family moved to Coulter. She attended school in Alexander. Magna married Walter Anderson and moved to rural Klemme, where they farmed for many years. Magna lived in Grafton for eight years, then moved to Mason City, where she had lived since. She was a housekeeper in the area for many years. Magna was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, church circle, Queen Rebekah Lodge, Danish Sisterhood and volunteered at several care centers including Americana, Good Shepherd and I.O.O.F. Home. She loved her flowers and crocheting.

Magna is survived by her four children, Dagny Schmidt, of Klemme, Calvin Anderson and his wife, Beverly, of rural Ventura, Einar Anderson, of Clarion and Melvin Anderson and his wife, Nancy, of Burchinal; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Magna was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Walter Anderson, Axel Jensen and Vern Bowen; two brothers; two sisters; two grandchildren; and one son-in-law.
