Dorothy Mae (Simpson) Moenck passed away on Monday August 19, 2013 at the Friendship Haven Health Center in Fort Dodge. She was born on November 11, 1924 to Merle "Chub" and Ruth (Ness) Simpson and lived on a farm south of Duncombe, Iowa. Dorothy graduated from Duncombe High School and married her high school sweetheart Donald Moenck. They were together sixty nine years until Don passed away in January of this year. The funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 21, 2013 at the Celebration Center at Friendship Haven. The visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services and then one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Celebration Center. Pastor Anita Johnson will be conducting the service with burial in Newark Township Cemetery north of Vincent following a light lunch.

Don and Dorothy spent the first years of their lives farming south of Vincent, in 1960, they purchased the Vincent Lumber Yard, making their home in that community for forty years. Dorothy worked part time in the Vincent post office for many years before being assigned there as the post mater, a job she loved. While living in Vincent, she was active in the Vincent Methodist Church and cooked many meals there for local clubs. In 2000, they moved to the Friendship Haven community where she has resided for the past thirteen years. She volunteered as a coffee hostess at the health center always bringing treats she had baked. She and Don loved to entertain, play cards, go on fishing trips, and they traveled extensively on group tours. Every December you would find her in the kitchen making many batches of Christmas candy which she gave to all of her family and friends. She was known for her wonderful rye bread and homemade meals.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters Carol (Jim) Eich of Fort Dodge, Sue Gilbert of St. Louis Park, MN, and son Gary (Linda) of Webster City; ten grandchildren, Jeff (Chris) Anderson, Tim (Kathy) Anderson, Amy (Jayson) Heesch, Sherry (Dan) Warrick, Christy (Lance) Walker, Angela Schwartz, Ryan (Erin) Moenck, Nathan (Emily) Moenck, Heath Moenck, and Heidi (Travis) Barrick; twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Pauline (Harold) Morrison of Fort Dodge, two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband Don; her parents; son-in-law Clifford Anderson; sister and brother-in-law Stan and Phyllis Smith and brother-in-law Arthur Rhodes. She loved her family deeply and being a part of their lives. Memorials may be left to the Friendship Haven Building Fund.
