Marcus D. Oliver was born February 19, 1848 at La Porte, Lake County, Indiana and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Olive Siens in Tuttle, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, one month and nine days. He frontiered in Iowa [Belmond, Wright County, Iowa], Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma and in each case was in the extreme front. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Thornton at Harper, Kansas. To this union seven children were born. They then moved to the Indian Territory until the opening of Oklahoma. They then lived in Oklahoma until their deaths. His wife and one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Conner preceded him in death. His wife passed away January 24, 1927 and the daughter, December 22, 1935. He is survived by six children, four sons, Doran E. and Bruce of Oklahoma City, Eldon of Comstock, Nebraska and Murrel of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Olive Siens of Tuttle, Oklahoma and Mrs. Kate Voigt of Fenton, Iowa. One sister, Mrs. Sarah Overacker of Huntington Beach, California; thirty-one grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. At an early age he was converted and lived a Christian life until his death. He was a devoted husband, loving father and a kind friend.
