Laura Ellen Ward, the daughter of Walter and Mary (Dyer) Ward, was born January 7, 1932 on a farm near Wesley, Iowa. When Laura was a child, she moved with her family to a farm near Corwith, Iowa where she received her education. Following her graduation from Corwith High School, Laura worked in the Corwith Café until moving to Algona where she was employed in the ASCS Office. On November 5, 1952, Laura was united in marriage to John Seiler at St. Mary’s Church in Humboldt. John’s service in the Army took the new couple to Panama and following his discharge, they settled in Humboldt. Laura continued her work with the ASCS until she and John started their family. In 1963, Laura helped her husband start Seiler Appliance Service and in 1965, they bought out Jerry Vandenberg and established Seiler Appliance and Service in Humboldt. In 1973, with her children in school, Laura joined John full time in the family business where they worked together until their retirement in 2005. Laura laid John to rest in 2009 and she continued to maintain her home until her death.

Laura’s first love was for her family, insisting that her children all attend college and helped her four sons become Eagle Scouts. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and had a strong sense of volunteerism. She was a 55-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 119 and served as its County President for 27 years. She had held every office in the local unit and was active on the state level. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women and the Royal Neighbors and especially enjoyed dinners out with her friends. Memorials will be made to benefit various community needs.
