Funeral services for Mr. Delmar Clarken, 93, of Spencer, Iowa, formerly of Gillett Grove, Iowa, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Tonna Parsons will officiate the service. Burial will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mr. Clarken passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.

Delmar Clarken, the son of John Owen and Myrtle Daisy Haggard Clarken, was born March 21, 1920 in Vincent, Iowa. He was raised in Webster County and attended school at Colfax No. 1 and Duncombe High School. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Lucille Brown on May 4, 1940 in Dows, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Webster County, Franklin County, Dickinson County, Jackson County and then Clay County. He was raised on the farm and continued farming until retirement in 1981, when he retired to Gillett Grove. He enjoyed helping the farming community after retiring.

Evelyn and Delmar had a special kind of love. They were married for 72 years. He always looked forward to the spring of the year so he could plant his garden, be outside, and go to the bar for a couple. Delmar enjoyed reading western books and playing solitaire.

Delmar passed away on July 4, 2013 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Evelyn; son, James; brothers and sisters and in-laws. Left to cherish his memory are his two children: Thomas Clarken of Gillett Grove, Iowa and Diane Kroese (Richard) of Spirit Lake, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Kathy Clarken of Salt Lake City, Utah; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
