Mrs. J. E. [John E.] Gifford Rites Held Here Wed. Afternoon – Services Held at Methodist Church with Dr. B. W. Riner in Charge

Mrs. J. E. Gifford, after a brief illness, passed away at her apartment, on Saturday, April 17, due to an incurable malady. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Wednesday afternoon, Dr. B. W. Riner being in charge. Interment was made in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mrs. Elia I. Harness was born at Moorefield, West Virginia on Feb. 13, 1868. She prepared herself for a nursing profession, being graduated from a nurses training at Kiser, West Virginia. She spent many years in her profession in Washington, D. C., and was at one time superintendent of nurses at Red Lodge, Montana. On July 6, 1917 she was united to J. E. Gifford, at Kanawha, Iowa. They resided on a farm three miles north of Kanawha until March 1920, when they came to Clear Lake, locating in their home on South Fourth.

Mrs. Gifford is survived by one brother Wade Harness of St. Marius, Idaho; two sisters, Mrs. R. L. Harness of Chilicothe, Ohio, and Mrs. A. P. Smelie of Winchester, Virginia.

Mrs. Gifford has been a faithful and loyal member of the Methodist church, and an honored member of the Tina Rebecca lodge of Clear Lake.
