Richard E. "Dick" Dahlgren, 85 of Austin, Minnesota, died on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

Richard Ellis was born on September 18, 1927 in Galt, Iowa to Oscar and Gladys (Hickok) Dahlgren. He graduated from Austin High School in 1945 and attended Austin Junior College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Richard was a senior system analyst with Hormel Foods. Richard married Dorothy Schilling on July 21, 1951 in Beaumont, TX. They were married for 40 years and had four children together. Dorothy passed away on August 26, 1991. He married Donna Thomsen on September 4, 1993 at First United Methodist Church.

Richard was a member of First United Methodist Church, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Elks, Austin Country Club and American Legion. He loved golfing, traveling, woodworking, playing cards and dancing. Richard enjoyed remodeling projects around the house and he loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Gladys Dahlgren, wife Dorothy Dahlgren, brothers Ken Dahlgren and Burr Dahlgren, and sister O'Dana Bruns. Richard is survived by his wife Donna Thomsen Dahlgren, Austin, Minnesota; sons and daughters-in-law: Keith and Cathy Dahlgren, Kissimmee, Florida, Scott Dahlgren, Rochester, Minnesota, Steve and Roseanne Dahlgren, Madison, Wisconsin; daughter and son-in-law: Diane and Tim Gabrielson, Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren: Melissa Gabrielson, Rochester, Minnesota, Jason (Katie) Gabrielson, Austin, Minnesota, Michael (Angela) Dahlgren, Rosemount, Minnesota, Bradley Dahlgren, Minneapolis, Minnesota; one great granddaughter: Emma Gabrielson, Austin, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews. Per Richard's request, there will be a private family memorial service at a later date. Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society. Clasen-Jordan Funeral Home.
