1839 -- June 24, 1895

In Cedar Rapids, June 24, Mrs. Charlotte Baxter, aged 55 years, 10 months and 10 days. This death is the direct cause of an accident on a defective sidewalk in Cedar Rapids last fall. Besides the breaking of a limb, serious internal injuries were inflicted. Deceased was born in Ohio, going to Michigan with her parents in 1839. In 1857 she was married to George W. Baxter, who survives. In 1876 the family took up a residence in Spirit Lake, which was their home until last August when a removal to Cedar Rapids was made. Mrs. Millie Baxter Reed and Miss Mamie Baxter are the surviving children. The burial was here Tuesday morning. Notwithstanding the interference of the Masonic proceedings, many sympathetic Spirit Lakers, former neighbors of the family, met the funeral party at the depot and attended the remains to Lakeview cemetery. Mrs. Baxter was a kindly woman and a good neighbor. She was active in the work of the Relief Corps, and otherwise helpful in the community.
