Ewald Ernest Mueller, 85, of Kirksville, Missouri, and formerly of Shell, Rock, Iowa, died Friday evening, June 28, 2013 at the Kirksville Manor Care Center, Kirksville, Missouri, from complication of cancer.

Ewald was born on October 4, 1927, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Albert and Martha (Waddkin) Mueller. He grew up in Waverly, and attended the Waverly School system. He was baptized on October 23, 1927 and confirmed on March 22, 1942 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Following his schooling in Waverly, Ewald served in the United States Army from May 20, 1946 until October 18, 1947, during the WWII. Following his honorable discharge from the service he returned home and on September 18, 1949, Ewald was united in marriage to Marcene Katie Pogge in Renwick, Iowa. Ewald was a farmer, then worked at the live stock yards from 1962 – 1968. From 1968, until his retirement in 1990, he worked for IPS as a meter reader. Ewald was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock, since 1962. He was also a member of the Shell Rock Area Sportsmen's Club and the American Legion Post #176 in Waverly. He enjoyed singing in many different groups, woodworking, riding his motor scooter, and being a member of the "Over the Hill Gang." Ewald and Marcene enjoyed spending the winter season in Harlingen, Texas. Ewald and Marcene made their permanent home in Kirksville, Missouri in July of 2012.

Ewald is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Marcene Katie Mueller of Kirksville, Missouri; two daughters, Diane (Mueller) Brown and her husband, Roger of Kirksville, Missouri, Dee Ann Mueller of Spokane, Washington; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Dory, Mrs. Harold Wiltshire of Oaklawn, Illinois, Marilyn Osborn of Grant, Michigan, Joan Wubbena of Olympia, Washington. Ewald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Mueller of Waverly, Virginia.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock, with Pastor Kim Smith Presiding. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Waverly, with military graveside rites conducted by the Waverly Area Veterans Honor Guard. Public visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North East Missouri, 201 S. Baltimore, Kirksville, Missouri, 63501.
