Thomas Joseph Hart, 92, passed away, July 5, 2013 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines with family by his side. Thomas was born in Eagle Grove on August 16, 1920 to John and Theresa Hart, being the fifth born of ten children. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School and Junior College. During WW II, Thomas served in the Coast Guard in convoy duty in the European Theatre from 1942-1946. On September 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Muriel Ramer, and resided in Eagle Grove. Thomas was a railroad engineer for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 44 years, retiring in 1984. Travel, playing bridge, and golf were enjoyed during his retirement years. Tom was proud of his Irish heritage, and the twinkle in his eye conveyed how much he loved life. Tom and Muriel resided at The Good Samaritan in Indianola this past year.

Tom is survived by his wife of 67 years, Muriel; four children: Eugene and wife, Deb of Fremont, NE, Sheila Curoe and husband, Bill, Dan and wife, Sherri, and Barbara Gieseke, all of West Des Moines; 11 grandchildren, Chad, Stacey, Michelle, Lori, Julie, Joe, Shawn, Christen, Emily, Kyle and Jason; 19 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Todd, Josie, Thomas, Zoey, Javon, Andrew, Matthew, Zachary, Nicholas, Brady, Ella Lou, Adalyn, Charlie, Tommy, Andy, Ellie, Luke and Ray; brother, Patrick and wife, Paula of Adel and a sister-in-law, Mildred Keller of Iowa City. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Todd; six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 12 noon at Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove, Iowa. ARRANGEMENTS BY ILES FUNERAL HOME - WESTOVER CHAPEL.
