February 19, 1929 --- July 2, 2013

Edna Elsie Schreur was called home Tuesday, July 2, 2013 to live with her Lord Jesus. The daughter of Ben and Grace (Nieman) Blank, she was born February 19, 1929 in Kanawha, Iowa where she attended country school and graduated from Kanawha High School. On August 28, 1957, Edna married Herman Schreur and together they farmed the Schreur family farm, where they raised their four children. Edna was a member of Kanawha Christian Reformed Church; taught grade school at Kanawha Christian School where she was her daughter Jan's kindergarten teacher; and worked 22 years as a nurse's aide at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home. Family and home were treasured; she was an energetic, efficient and organized homemaker and mother who lovingly and generously supported her family. Anchored in her unwavering faith, her heart's desire was for others to know the incredible love of God. In 1990, Herman and Edna moved to Lynden to be close to their children. Edna worked at the Lynden Christian Rest Home and became a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Edna is survived by her children: Dorothy (Mike) Waggoner, Janice Schreur (Darryl Baker), Barbara (Ken) Vander Veen and Paul Schreur; Grandchildren: Angela (Jordan) Oliver, Brian Chicoratich, Amber and Kelsey Vander Veen; Great-Grandchildren: Ava and Dylan Oliver; twin sister, Ada Schoenwetter and sister, Leona (Ken) Sorenson; sisters-in-law, Ann Blank and Marian Blank; brother-in-law, Bill Schreur; sisters-in-law Helen (George) Eekhoff, Betty Schreur and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by infant granddaughter, Maria Anne Chicoratich; brothers Cecil Blank and Raymond Blank; sister, Lillian (Clarence) Vander Ploeg and in-laws, Homer Schoenwetter, Don Marchand, George (Anna) Schreur, Garret (Zelda) Schreur, John Schreur, Mary Schreur and Maylene Schreur. Visitation hours are scheduled for Friday, July 5, 4 to 7 pm at Gillies Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, July 6, 10:00 am in Monumenta Cemetery followed by an 11:00 am memorial service at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Liberty St., Lynden. Memorials in Edna's name are suggested to: Lynden Christian Schools, 417 Lyncs Dr., Lynden, WA 98264 or Kanawha Christian School, 470 E 5 Street, Kanawha, IA 50447.
