July 5, 1894 --- October 3, 1976

Clarence Gerhard Olson, son of John A. and Marianna (Lund) Olson, was born in Humboldt County (near Thor), Iowa on July 5, 1894. The family resided on the Iowa farm until March 1901, when they, together with the Ova Olson and Sam Lund families, moved to Tyro Township near Clarkfield. Clarence was baptized in Ullensvang Lutheran Church at Thor by Pastor C. C. Farseth. He was confirmed in Clarkfield Lutheran Church by the Reverend O. T. Storaasli on June 27, 1909.

On February 3, 1922, he was united in marriage to Hilda Olson at her parental home north of Montevideo by the Reverend E. I. Strom. Their marriage was blessed by three children: Hildegard (Mrs. Arnold Abraham of New Ulm), Camilla (Mrs. Herbert Wilson) and Roger, both of Clarkfield. Grandchildren include Annette Abraham Praska and children, Dawn and Jason; Carol Abraham Marti and children, Keith and Christine; Larry, Marilyn, and Rebecca Abraham; Valerie Jean Olson; and Herbert, Jr. and Heidi Wilson.

The Olsons resided on farms in Tyro Township until 1961, when they moved to Clarkfield where he lived at the time of his death. Clarence had been in ill health for the past year. He was hospitalized at the University of Minnesota Hospital, Clarkfield Care Center, and Clarkfield Hospital where he passed away on October 3, 1976, at the age of 82 years. He will be remembered for his patient and quiet spirit. He was loved by both young and old.

Survivors include his wife; three children; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Joseph (Jennie) Haaland of Owatonna and Mrs. Henry (Edna) Johnson of Clarkfield; one brother, Arnold of Clarkfield; foster sister, Mrs. G. C. (Evelyn) Listul of Detroit Lakes; and many nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Mrs. Martin (Selma) Mikelson, Mrs. Thormod (Laura) Amdahl, and Mrs. Titus (Cecelia) Ueland; and two foster brothers: Otis Payne and Carmody Helgeson.
