Lois Korslund, 83, was professor at MU, Truman State University

Lois Nanette Korslund, 83, of Columbia passed away June 1, 2013. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Lois was born May 19, 1930 in Norway Township, Iowa to Edwin and Clara Foss Korslund, who preceded her in death. Lois attended Norway Township #1 Country School in Humboldt County, Iowa where she completed the 8th grade in 1944. She was a 1948 graduate of Eagle Grove High School in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota from 1948-50. She graduated with a B.S. in Home Economics Education from Iowa State University in 1952 and obtained her M.A. in Textiles, Clothing and Television from Michigan State University in 1956. She received her PhD in Textiles & Clothing with Related Concentration in Business and Behavior Sciences from Purdue University in 1974. She had worked as a Professor and Administrator at the University of Missouri and Truman State University in Kirksville MO.

Lois was initiated to the National Honor Society as a Junior in High School in 1947, served as President of the Humboldt County Iowa 4-H Club in 1948 and was elected to be the Iowa Delegate to Norway through the International Farm Youth Exchange in 1953. She was a Phi Kappa Phi Academic University Society Undergraduate Inductee in 1952 and named a Distinguished Member in 1995. She was a member of Omicron Nu Academic Home Economics Honor Society, Delta Zeta Sorority, Fashion Group, American Women in Radio and Television and the Home Economists in Business Organization. She served as the President of the Missouri Home Economics Association in 1980 and was honored as the Outstanding Advisor, College of Home Economics at the University of Missouri in 1983. Lois also belonged to the Quota Club Service Club in Kirksville, Missouri.

She is survived by sister, Mary Korslund of Christiansburg VA; sister-in-law, Charlene Korslund of Eagle Grove Iowa; cousin, Brian Rainer of Champaign IL; nephews, John, David, Douglas and James Korslund. She was also preceded in death by brother, Allen Korslund and sister, Jeannette Korslund.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MaGee/Korslund Junior Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship Fund at Truman State University, the Eagle Grove High School Dollars for Scholars Fund, or the Mayo Clinic Foundation for Medical Research or St. Olaf College.
