ROWAN, IA — Myrtle Gunderson, age 90, formerly of Rowan, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Memorial services for Myrtle Gunderson will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 13, at the United Church of Rowan. Pastor Nancy Hoffmeister will officiate. Burial will take place in the Graceland cemetery near Rowan. A luncheon for family and friends will be served in the church basement following the graveside service. Visitation for Myrtle Gunderson will be held from noon until service-time on Monday at the church. Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond is in charge of arrangements.

LaVerna Myrtle Gunderson was born July 20, 1922, in Freeborn County, Minn., the daughter of George and Marie Jacobsen Dockwell. As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm in Franklin County in 1926. She attended Franklin County School. Myrtle was united in marriage to Merle Gunderson on Nov. 1, 1947, in Minnesota. Merle and Myrtle farmed near Rowan and later years moved into the town of Rowan. They were members of the Congregational Church in Rowan, where Myrtle worked as secretary.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Gunderson; her parents, George and Marie Dockwell; and four siblings: Raymond Dockwell, Velma Thompson, Hazel Lester and Kelly Jensen. Surviving Myrtle are one sister, Gladys Andershok of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers: Lyle and Joan Dockwell of Latimer, George and Dona Dockwell of Belmond; and several nieces and nephews.
