January 25, 1865 --- April 3, 1937

Joseph F. Citek, son of Mary and John Citek, was born Jan. 25, 1865, in Bernardicka, Austria. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. H. Derr, Saturday morning, April 3, 1937, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 9 days, fortified with the last rites of the Holy Catholic church. At the age of 16 years he came to the United States and with the exception of eight years residence in Corwith, Iowa, made his home at Spillville, Iowa, and in this vicinity. When 25 years old he was naturalized as a citizen of the United States. In 1885 he was united in marriage with Mary Cizek at Spillville. To this union three children were born: Emma, Cora and William Joseph. His wife preceded him in death. During his life time he was engaged at the blacksmith trade and operated a shop at Schley until three years ago when ill health necessitated his retirement. Since then he has made his home with his daughters Mrs. C. E. Frasier at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mrs. L. H. Derr at Schley. He leaves to mourn his passing two daughters: Emma, (Mrs. C. E. Frasier) of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Cora, (Mrs. L. H. Derr) of Elma; one son, William Joseph of Cresco; one brother, James of Cresco; and one granddaughter and one great grandson, Mrs. George Mead and son Dana of Cresco; besides a host of friends in the Spillville and Schley communities. Funeral services were held at Schley at ten o’clock Monday morning, the Rev. Father Ruzicka officiating. Burial was at Schley. Pallbearers were L. V. Svestka, James Malek, Mike Barnes, Will Smith, Joseph Shimek and Harry Reynolds.
