July 12, 1838 --- October 3, 1920

Martin Thompson was born in Gran, Hadeland, Norway July 12, 1838. Died at his home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, October 3, 1920. Mr. Thompson was married twice, the first time in Norway to Berthe Olsen. Four children were born to this union, one died in infancy. Those living are Marie Dokken, Ole Thompson and Emma Oftendinger. Mrs. Thompson died in Fort Dodge in 1873. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson having arrived in America in 1860.

His second marriage, to Julia Anderson, occurred in 1875. Eight children were born to this union. One boy Arthur, died at age eight years. Those living are: Lena, Theodore, Fred, Mabel Horns, Jessie Roscoe and Clarence. He is survived also by one sister, Marie Anderson, in Norway. 83 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Mr. Thompson made his home in Fort Dodge for seven years, then resided in Minneapolis for six years. Then moved to Eagle Grove and resided here for 37 years, up to the time of his death. His children and addresses are as follows: Marie Dokken of Palermo, N. Dakota, Ole Thompson of Northwood, Iowa, Lena Thompson of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Theodore Thompson of Hillyard, Wash, Jessie Roscoe of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Clarence Thompson of Waterloo, Iowa, Ben Thompson of Sioux City, Iowa, Mabel Horns of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The following relative and friends from out of town were in attendance at the funeral: Ole and Milton Thompson of Northwood, Mrs. Roscoe of Albert Lea, Mrs. Rygmry of Forest City, Clarence Thompson of Waterloo, Fred Thompson of Renwick, Miss Mildred and Joseph Oftendinger of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Thompson of Humboldt, Mr and Mrs. John Jotten of Clarion.
