Florence Madsen, 92, of Algona, formerly of Bradgate, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Home in Algona. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Rutland Trinity Lutheran Church six miles east of Bradgate, Iowa. Inurnment will be in Blakjer Cemetery near Seneca. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Elnore Madsen was born September 4, 1920 to Fred and Carrie (Christensen) Jensen near Seneca, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Seneca High School. Florence married Glenn William Hansen from Ringsted. They made their home on a farm near Bradgate. To this union three sons, Irvin, Terry, and Don were born. Glenn died from heart problems in 1951. Florence married Elmer Eugene Madsen on December 1954. They too lived on a farm near Bradgate until later moving into town. Their marriage was 49 1/2 years until Gene died of cancer in 2004. Florence moved to Algona in September 2006 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Judy Hansen. On December 10, 2009, Florence entered the Alzheimer's unit of the Good Samaritan Home in Algona and passed away there on the evening of February 9, 2013. Florence's greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing piano, crocheting, dancing, fishing, and going for rides through the countryside.

Florence is survived by her oldest son, Irvin Hansen and wife Connie of Pass Christian, MS; her youngest son, Don Hansen and wife Judy of Algona; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hansen of Eagle Grove; her grandchildren, Glenn (Cindy) Hansen, Pittsburg, PA; Amber (Andre) Spotke, Stuttgart, Germany; Tracy (Tom) Crees, Goldfield; Tony Hansen, Des Moines; Angela (Jeff) Pagel, Webster City; Kelly (Jeff) Grandgeorge, Eagle Grove; Leslie (Jason) Moore, Clarion; Nancy (Brandon) Lindell, Wynnewood, OK; thirteen great-grandchildren; her brother, Calvin (Gertrude) Jensen, Armstrong; and many nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Glenn Hansen and Gene Madsen; her second son, Terry in 2004; five sisters; and two brothers.
