11 March 1915 -- 3 October 1987

Funeral services for Bill Abbas, 72, were held from the United Methodist Church in Dows Tuesday, October 6, 1987 at 11 a.m. Rev. Robert Dagit officiated and burial was in Northlawn Memory Gardens, Iowa Falls. Military rites were conducted by the Dows American Legion Post #523. The Elledge Funeral Home in Dows was in charge of arrangements.

Bill died Saturday, October 3, 1987 at University Hospitals in Iowa City following surgery. He was born in Geneva, Iowa March 11, 1915 to Engelke and Effe Bontjes Abbas. He received his education and grew to manhood in the Ackley-Geneva area. He was a WW 2 veteran serving from February 4, 1942 until October 24, 1945. He was united in marriage to Helen Boor September 8, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed north of Iowa Falls and around Dows until he retired in 1978. They moved to their present home in Dows in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Dows; two daughters, Rose Abbas of Malcolm, Iowa and Patty Patten of Brooklyn, Iowa; and three grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Jeannette Abbas of Ackley, and two brothers, Mel Abbas of Iowa falls and Barney Abbas of Ackley. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
