Service for 86-Year-Old Sister, Native of Elma
Sister Mary Daniel Sullivan, 86, died May 10 in Queen of Angels infirmary at the Sacred Heart convent. She was born on April 9, 1887, at Elma. She entered the congregation of the Sisters of Mercy June 4, 1906, being the first girl from the Immaculate Conception Parish in Elma to join the Sisters of Mercy. She professed her final vows August 20, 1909. Sister Mary Daniel taught in the following parochial schools: St. Xavier's, Manchester; St. Mary's, Grand Junction; St. Patrick's, Fairfax; St. Cecelia's, Ames; St. John's, Clarion; Sacred Heart, Waterloo; St. Benedict's, Decorah; St. Patrick's, Anamosa; Immaculate Conception, St. Wenceslaus, and All Saint in Cedar Rapids, and Our Lady of Grace, Edina, Minn.
Surviving are two sisters, Lydia Cashman, Elma, and Mary Holroyd, Anaheim, Calif., and a brother, Thomas Sullivan, Des Moines. Services were Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred heart chapel by Msgr. Timothy Gannon as celebrant, and the Rev. William Leonard, homilist. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Rosemary Gebel and Mrs. Joe McAvoy of Alta Vista, Jane Sullivan of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Goergen of Osage, Mrs. Marvin Hockinson and Mrs. Lydia Cashman attended the funeral. Mrs. Cashman had been in Cedar Rapids the entire week.
