March 24, 1917 --- April 3, 2013

Meservey — Marie Ruiter, 96, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Belmond Rehabilitation Center in Belmond. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey with the Rev. Rodney Meester presiding. Interment will be at the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service at the church. Those wishing to may direct memorials to First Reformed Church in Meservey.

Marie Margaret (Kahler) Ruiter was born to Charles and Lena Kahler on March 24, 1917, near Goodell. She attended country school near Goodell graduating from the eighth grade. On Nov. 17, 1934, Marie was united in marriage with Bernard Ruiter in Belmond. They moved to Wisconsin where they farmed for a short period before moving back to Iowa settling near Meservey. Here they farmed for many years until retiring in 1978 and moving into Klemme. After Bernard passed away Marie moved to Thornton until going to the Belmond Rehabilitation Center in April 2011. She passed away at 96 years of age. Marie was a 4-H leader for 10 years; she loved working in the garden and was grandmother of the Year for Hancock County in 1997.

She is survived by her children: Donnie Ruiter, Thornton & Janet (Glenn) Hardesty, Lexington, Neb.; three grandsons: Randy (Suzie) Ruiter, Denver; Danny Ruiter, Stanton, Neb., and Bryce Boelman, Lexington, Neb.; eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; sister: Avon Kohl and brother-in-law: Willie Ruiter. Marie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, one sister and two brothers. Retz Funeral Home.
