Blanche I. Porter, age 91, of Belmond passed away Tuesday January 22, 2013 at her home in Belmond. Private family funeral services for Blanche I. Porter will be held on Saturday January 26, 2013 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond. Burial will take place in the Belmond cemetery. Visitation for Blanche I. Porter will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday January 25, 2013 at the Dugger Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Blanche I. Porter’s name to the family.

Blanche Inez, the daughter of Wilbur and Theresa Riley Tilton was born October 14, 1921 at the Webster City Hospital. Blanche attended schools in Webster City, Eagle Grove and Humboldt. At age 15, she graduated from Humboldt High School in 1937. Blanc then attended Normal training. She worked for the Humboldt Greenhouse and the Humboldt Bakery.

Blanche was united in marriage to Russell Porter on August 15, 1941 at the Methodist Parsonage in Algona. The couple made their home in Temple, TX, Banning, CA, and Trenton, NJ while Russ was in the service. Eventually landing back in Iowa, Blanche worked at Hood’s Super Valu in Algona while Russ was overseas. The couple moved to Belmond in 1947, where Blanche raised her family. Russ ran Standard Bulk Oil and Blanche was the answering service for over forty years.

Blanche joined the United Methodist Church in Humboldt and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond. She taught pre-school Sunday School, and was MYF sponsor when Janis and Gloria were in Junior High. She also was a Camp Fire leader. Blanche was a long-time member of Rebekah Lodge, Culture Study Club, and Craft Club. She enjoyed walking, golf, sewing, gardening and especially playing Bridge.

Blanche is survived by her daughters, Janis Flanagan and her husband, Bob of Waterloo, Gloria McLaughlin and her husband, Dave, of Cascade, daughter-in-law, Nadyne Porter of Belmond, grandchildren, Anne, Chad (Melanie), Lynn (Chad), Russ (Jen), Craig (Kay), Ryan (Danielle), Tara (Scott), Scott (Amber), 15 great grandchildren, a sister, Helen McCaulley, and a sister-in-law, Hazel Tilton. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Russ, two sons, Gary, Dennis, three sisters and two brothers.
