Story City -- Pauline Henry, 93, of Story City, passed away February 2, 2013, at Bethany Manor surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, IA. Burial will follow in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 6, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Pauline "Polly" was born on October 3, 1919, on a farm near Goldfield, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Myrtle Hilderbrand. On August 28, 1941, Pauline married Bill Henry. Graduating from the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines, IA, she worked as a stenographer and secretary until 1984. They were able to travel to many countries after their retirement. She loved babysitting her grandchildren and holding her great-grandchildren. They lived in Newton, Clarion, and the Timberland in Story City, to be closer to her daughter and family.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicki and John Kruger, her son-in-law; three grandchildren, Kristine (Devin) Fuhrman of Ankeny, Michael (Heather) Kruger of Huxley, Kimberly (Eric) Mueggenberg of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren, McKenna and Kaylin Fuhrman, Braden and Breanna Kruger and Lilly Mueggenberg; and two sisters, Rose Mary Byrd of New Hampton, IA and Rodean Frakes of Goldfield, IA. She was preceded in death by Bill in 2011; her parents; her sister, Marjorie Whyte; and brothers-in-law, John Whyte and Charles Byrd. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Choir. Soderstrum Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Pauline “Polly” was born on October 3, 1919 on a farm near Goldfield, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Myrtle Hilderbrand. She graduated from Goldfield in 1937 and from the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines, IA. She worked as a county clerk at the Wright County Courthouse in Clarion , IA; as a stenographer – typist for the US Employment Service in Fort Dodge, IA; as a stenographer – secretary for the Army Air Force Bombardier School in Big Spring, TX; as an accountant for Gambles in Oelwein, IA; and from 1961 – 1984 as an interviewer, clerk, secretary for the Newton Job Service in Newton, IA. On August 28, 1941, Pauline married Bill Henry. Bill’s promotions as a Rock Island Railroad Agent allowed for Pauline’s numerous jobs. After they retired, Pauline and Bill traveled to many countries and enjoyed most of the states and Canada with their Sunday School pals from Newton. She was an Elder at the United Presbyterian Church. She loved to bake cookies, pies, muffins, cinnamon rolls, and deserts. She and Bill delivered her sweet treats and meals on wheels in Newton for many years. She loved babysitting her grandchildren and holding her great grandchildren. After 40 years in Newton, Pauline and Bill lived four years at the Meadows in Clarion and lived 13 years at the Timberland Village in Story City to be closer to her daughter and family. Survivors include: her daughter, Vicki and John Kruger, her son-in-law; three grandchildren, Kristine (Devin) Fuhrman of Ankeny, Michael (Heather) Kruger of Huxley, Kimberly (Eric) Mueggenberg of Des Moines; five great grandchildren, McKenna and Kaylin Fuhrman, Braden and Breanna Kruger and Lilly Mueggenberg; and two sisters, Rose Mary Byrd of New Hampton, IA and Rodean Frakes of Goldfield, IA.
