June 12, 1890 --- January 1, 1949

Lloyd Wilbert Hockman, son of the late Franklin and Mary Ella Yoder Hockman, was born in Woolstock, Iowa, on June 12, 1890, and departed this life on January 1, 1949, at the age of 58 years, 6 months and 19 days. At a young age, he left his home in Woolstock to live with his brother Harry in Detroit. His first job was with the Western Union Co. construction plant. In 1912, in the course of his work, he helped build a line through Clarence. This is when he met his future wife who was working in the telephone office and helping in the restaurant where the linemen boarded.

He came back to Clarence in 1916 to work on the farm. In 1917 he entered the service of his country and spent a number of months in France, in the Engineers Corps. He returned from service in January 1920. On May 12, 1920, he was united in marriage to Miss Gusta Carolyn Lund. They made their home in Clarence, where Lloyd worked in the carpentering, drayage and restaurant business. Then they purchased the small farm just north of Clarence, which they made into a real home.

Mr. Hockman was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters, and is survived by his bereaved widow, Mrs. Gusta Hockman, and two brothers, Roy of Kansas and Archie of Arizona, also nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Hockman home and St. John's Church on Monday afternoon, Jan. 3rd, with interment in the Clarence cemetery. In charge of the flowers: Luanna Pruess, Louise Roelf, Velma Wright. Pallbearers Arnold Pruess, Kermit Roelf, Fred Bachman, Joe Baker, Dewey Rhatigan and Wm. Dettmann.
