Barbara Jo Marr, 82, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, formerly of Norfolk, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley. The funeral was scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church in Missouri Valley with burial in the Dow City Cemetery under direction of Hennessey Funeral Home. The Rev. Nathan Slaughter officiated.

Barbara was born May 31, 1930, in Missouri Valley to Kirk C. and Blanche A. (Hardy) Barrett. She graduated from the Missouri Valley High School with the class of 1949. Barbara was united in marriage to the love of her life, G. Rex Marr, on Jan. 26, 1963, 50 years ago. Barbara was employed by the Nebraska school system and was a secretary at Westside Elementary School in Norfolk for many years. Prior to Norfolk, they had been in Denison, Carroll, Boone and Eagle Grove, Iowa, since Rex was a railroader.

Barbara was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Norfolk and was a current member of the Missouri Valley Christian Church. She was a past worthy matron of Norfolk OES, Beulah Chapter 40, and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. Barbara moved to Missouri Valley in January of 2012 due to failing health.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband G. Rex Marr, sister-in-law Mary Barrett and many others. Survivors include her sons, John G. Marr of Houston, Texas, Franklin K. Marr of Norfolk; grandson Andrew L. Marr of Seward; brother John B. “Bud” Barrett and wife Janeen of Missouri Valley and many cousins.

Pianist will be Donna Ball with music selections “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden.” Casket bearers are Mike Price, Jim Marsh, Kim Mickey, Randy Ulmer, Rod McHugh, Rick Siemer and Andrew Marr.
