August 18, 1928 ---- January 4, 2013

John Dean "Jack" Thompson, 84, of Osage, Iowa, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Mitchell County Regional Hospital, Osage. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday January 9, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with Rev. Dan Gerrietts of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Military honors provided by Mason City V.F.W.

Jack was born on August 18, 1928 in Belmond, the son of Richard Adolph and Matilda Mae (Sjoberg) Thompson. He attended school in Belmond. He worked in the Belmond area until enlisting in the United States Navy and serviced during the Korean Conflict, after the service he moved back to the Belmond, Mason City area. He married Marlys Eveland June 16, 1956 in Mason City.

Jack worked for Northwestern Portland Cement for over 32 years in the machine shop, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, bowling, playing cards, cribbage and playing poker with his granddaughters. He was a member of the Mason City V.F.W.

Jack is survived by his wife Marlys Thompson, Osage; son Tracy Neal (Tena) Thompson, Osage; five granddaughters Jakki, Jade, Jasmine, Zoey and Destiny; a brother Duan (Linda) Thompson, Belmond and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Anita Mae Whipple and his four brothers Richard, William, Donald, and Roger Thompson. Memorial Park Cemetery and Funeral Home, Hwy 122 West, Mason City.
