Violet Lola Bode

Mankato, MN --- Violet L. Bode, 100, of Mankato and formerly of Nicollet died Friday, January 4, 2013 at her home, Monarch Meadows, in North Mankato. Funeral service will be Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with Pastor Ronald Siemers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, rural Nicollet. Visitation will be 4 – 6 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue on Monday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.

She is survived by a son DeWayne Bode of Brainerd; a daughter, Judith Engelhart of Mankato; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Bode of Hutchinson; loving grandchildren, Dan (Bobbi) Bode, Cindy Porter, Pam Eliason, Rhonda (Joe) Feidt, Randy (Robin) Bode, Rene (Jim) Mosher, Den (Lori) Engelhart, Tracy Filand, Becky Schlup; eighteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a namesake, Violet Enter; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Bode, Ardella Bruns, Lillian Gerlach, and Glenda Bode; and by several dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alfred H. Bode in 1988; a son, Ronald Bode in 2006; a sister, Irene Hanson; by brothers Lloyd, Roy, and Ole Anderson; a son-in-law, David Engelhart in 2011; daughters-in-law, Glenda Bode in 2001 and Carlotta Pelava in 2002, and a great granddaughter Crystal Porter in 2000.

Violet L. Anderson, the daughter of Otto and Etta (Sheldon) Anderson was born on October 13, 1912 in Dows, Iowa. At the age of four she moved with her family to rural Mankato. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in 1927. On August 8, 1935 Violet was united in marriage to Alfred H. Bode. After marriage they farmed in Nicollet Township until 1969 when they moved into Nicollet. Violet was an Avon Representative for twenty three years, retiring in 1990. She was also an area correspondent for the local newspapers from 1959 – 1996. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, the Ladies Guild at church, served on the church archives committee and was in charge of the church library. She also worked with the Cancer Society, the Nicollet County Home Extension and was a 4-H member as a child and a leader as an adult. Volunteering was a passion of hers. Violet enjoyed all of God’s creations around her.
