James Richard Zigrang, the son of Harry and Augustine (Choquette) Zigrang, was born September 13, 1933, in Livermore, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Van Nuys California High School and then attended Eagle Grove Junior College. He served in the United States Army from June 1, 1956 until his honorable discharge on May 31, 1958.

James was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Sadler on November 24, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt. James worked for Umthun Trucking as 'Director of Rates & Billing' for 24 years (1963 – 1987), farmed his family's farm for 11 years (1982-1993) and then owned and operated J's Gallery from 1986 to present.

James was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Parish Council and the Social Concerns Committee. He was also a member of the Woolstock American Legion Post # 553, Cruisin' Eagles Car Club and an honorary member of Eighth Air Force Iowa Reunion Group.

James passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion, Iowa at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Pete and Lenore Sadler; sister, Margaret Hergenreter and her husband, Nick; brother-in-law, Rudell Rusch and granddaughter, Grace Brunkhorst. Survivors include his wife, Jacquelyn Zigrang of Eagle Grove; ten children: Denis Zigrang (Jenny) of Eagle Grove, Denise Nelsen (Craig) of Clarion, Suzanne Zigrang of Eagle Grove, Jay Zigrang of Eagle Grove, Therese Martin (Doug) of Goldfield, Robert Zigrang (Lisa) of Dayton, Mary Brunkhorst (Al) of West Des Moines, Nicole Wanger (David) of Mesa, AZ, Margaret Koeller (Kevin) of West Des Moines and Jean Zigrang (Becky) of Clarion and 21 grandchildren: Joshua, Jessica, Isaac and Jo Zigrang; Dani and Kate Nelsen; Beth Schares (Cory), Sara Seward (Jake) and Andrew Martin; Anthony and Jonathan Zigrang; Isabella and Ava Brunkhorst; Hanna, Grace and Anthony Wanger; Alex and Hannah Streitilmier and Kyle and Drew Koeller and Brandon Zigrang.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, January 7, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Visitation will be Sunday at Sacred Heart Parish Center from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and the family invites you to join them for a "Celebration of Jim's Life" at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
