John R. Kvapil, 78, of Bettendorf, died Monday, November 19, 2012 at Genesis East Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1:00 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Inurnment will be at a later date at the National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

John was born August 28, 1934 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1952. He then attended Iowa State University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Education. He received his Master's in Vocational Education from Stout State University in Menomonee, Wisconsin. John moved to Davenport in 1962 and taught at Frank L. Smart Junior High School for four years and then retired from teaching at West High School in 1993. He was united in marriage to Rachael Caquelin on November 22, 1958 in Eagle Grove, IA; they would've celebrated 54 years together this year. He also served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, but his greatest joy was his family and spending time with them. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rachael, Bettendorf; daughter, Susan (Steve) Peters, Ft. Dodge, IA; grandchildren: Nick Peters, Ankeny, IA and Sam Peters, Ames, IA; sister, Carol (Eldon) Wohlleben, Marion, IA; brother, David Kvapil, Littleton, CO and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
