Marjorie Shillington, 84, of Hampton, formerly of Clarion, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Rehabilitation Center in Hampton. Funeral services for Marjorie Shillington will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue North East, in Clarion with Pastor Don Morrison officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Marjorie was born on August 7, 1928, in Oelwein to Harold and Lorena (Liekweg) Damon. She attended Oelwein Schools through eighth grade and graduated from Clarion High School in 1946. Marjorie received her two-year elementary teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1948. She earned her B.A. from UNI in 1975. She taught the next ten years at the elementary level at Dows, Armstrong and Fort Dodge. Marjorie taught in the first and second grades at the Clarion Elementary School for 26 years. She substituted and volunteered at the Clarion-Goldfield Schools after retirement in 1992.

Marjorie married Donald Shillington on February 6, 1955. Together they have three children; Christopher Donald, Thomas Patrick and Sarah Jane. Don and Marjorie would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this coming February. Marjorie was a member of the Clarion Methodist Church. She taught various grades of Sunday school for 49 years. She belonged to Ceres Circle, Red Hat Society, Clarion Library Board and was a volunteer for Elderbridge.

Marjorie had a passion for quilting, crafts, reading and shopping for herself and especially for her grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren and treasured all the many times spent with them. Marjorie was soft-spoken and will be remembered for her kindness, soft heart and sense of humor.

Marge is survived by her children, Chris (Diana) of Humboldt, Pat (Debbie) of Wendell, NC and Sarah (Gerry) Heilskov of Hampton; grandchildren, Shawn (Becky), Logan, Andrew, Cory and Christine Shillington and Alex and Sawyer Stecher; great-grandchildren, Ben and Will Shillington; brother, Myron (Marilyn) Damon of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Janet (William) Shoenhair of Ames and six nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and her parents, Harold Damon, Lorena and stepfather, John Elberg.
